Stephanie Smyth is the Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Toronto–St. Paul’s, elected in February 2025 as a member of the Ontario Liberal Party. A lifelong midtown Toronto resident, she brings over 35 years of experience as one of the city’s most respected journalists to her role in public service.​

Background

A lifelong commitment to her community

Before entering politics, Stephanie built a distinguished career in broadcast journalism. She served as news director and anchor at 680 News from its inception in 1993 until 2003, then held leadership roles at Global Television and AM 640 Toronto. From 2008 to 2022, she was a lead anchor and managing editor at CP24, where she became a trusted voice for Torontonians. After leaving CP24, she founded her own communications consultancy.

Stephanie’s commitment to community advocacy is deeply personal. She grew up in midtown Toronto, attending Bedford Park Public School, Glenview Senior Public School, and Lawrence Park Collegiate Institute. Stephanie has lived in midtown Toronto her entire life, including starting her family in a home on Oriole Parkway. She and her husband, Paul Cook—a fellow broadcaster and managing editor at 680 News, share their lives with their four children, their beloved Aussiedoodle, Ozzy, and their “grand-dog,” Mr. Albert Pickles .​

Now serving as MPP, Stephanie is dedicated to addressing the challenges faced by her constituents, including healthcare accessibility, education, and affordability. Her approach is rooted in thoughtful, long-term policy solutions, reflecting her deep understanding of the issues that matter most to the people of Toronto–St. Paul’s.
