Background

Call on government to take action on above guideline increases

Bill 60 — the Ford government's Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act — passed in November 2025, cutting tenant protections that Ontarians have relied on for decades. This petition calls on the province to introduce real safeguards against unfair rent increases and restore fair process for renters facing eviction.

Landlords can now file to evict tenants for unpaid rent after just 7 days' notice — down from 14

Landlords may no longer be required to compensate tenants displaced by personal-use evictions

The bill contains no measures to protect tenants from unfair Above Guideline rent increases

We, the undersigned, call on the Ontario Government to protect Tenants’ security of tenure and fair process.

WHEREAS ending the current policy of automatic transition to month-to-month leases after a fixed term would destabilize housing for countless Ontarians;

WHEREAS Bill 60 contains no measures to protect tenants from unfair Above Guideline Increases;

Therefore, we petition the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to commit to preserving the automatic transition to a month-to-month lease upon the conclusion of a fixed term lease; • Introduce measures to protect tenants from unfair Above Guideline Increases.
